Mobile COVID-19 Testing Comes to Waco

In a continued effort to provide free COVID-19 surge testing, the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District and the Waco-McLennan County Emergency Management have contracted with Aardvark Mobile Health to provide mobile COVID-19 testing. The small truck can park in a space equivalent to two parking spaces and can reconfigure once at the testing location to accommodate two testing lines.

The COVID-19 mobile testing truck can be deployed as a fully self-contained unit with its own onboard power, air conditioning, heat, and the ability to provide either positive or negative pressure to keep the clinicians safe while they supervise the free COVID-19 tests.

A canopy over individuals taking the test helps increase the usability of the vehicle. Servicing two lines from the truck, clinicians can administer up to 500 tests per day.

The tests administered from the mobile testing site will be saliva tests. These have been provided through the federal Community-Based Testing Site program that started in the Waco area in mid-October. The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), in partnership with local communities and private companies.

“Saliva tests are easy to perform, and many people may find them more comfortable than nasal swab tests,” said ADM Brett Giroir, M.D., HHS assistant secretary for health. “Our goal is to build our nation’s capacity for reliable, accurate and timely testing so that every American who needs a COVID-19 test — including those who do not have symptoms — can get one. Offering different types of tests helps us meet this goal.” HHS has allocated 40,000 COVID-19 tests for this effort.

The mobile platform provides flexibility to bring testing directly to our businesses and community members in a much larger area than previous opportunities. If community members or businesses would like to request the testing truck be deployed to a particular business or event, they can call the Waco-

McLennan County Emergency Management Office at 254-750-5911.

Pre-registration is highly encouraged. As these are saliva tests, please do not eat, drink, or brush your teeth for ½ hour prior to the test.
